I've been pretty happy with the AT-PL50. Built-in phono preamp is a very nice feature, such as computers and many of the amplifier / receiver circuits are not correctly deal with the RIAA equalization reserve for the LP. It's also nice that you can turn off the built-in preamp for when you need it. Other positives: The AT-PL50 is simple to put, so you can lift / lower tonearm pause and resume playback. The transition towards a tonearm record turns the device on, and moving back into a reclining position tonarm shut it down. Dust Cover damped so you can raise and lower it gently, without fear it will collapse and interfere with reproduction. And the pen is replaceable so when it shows signs of wear I would not be worried about buying a new cartridge.

The quality of the digitized records is a fine based on listening to playback on iPod and laptop. I am comfortable that the disc player is more than a match with the headphones I use and I am glad I did not spend twice as much more expensive unit.

The only criticism is that the hardwired audio output cable is too short. It is only about 24 inches long, which was not enough to get into the back of my stereo cabinet and connect the phono inputs on my amp. It is easy to handle by adding an extension cord, but if you do not have one handy you'd probably be unhappy is to run an electronics store before you can enjoy your new turntable.

And even though other reviewers have complained that I had no problem skipping any of dozens of LPs I have played many of which are very good and has lasted for college dorm life, and garage storage.
Author Resource:- Given the price and quality of my purpose, the AT-PL50 is exactly what I was looking for. (And if you're interested, I highly recommend you use the "
Audiograbber" software store - it is a diverse and free!
